Community benefit reporting is more than just filling out the correct forms to fulfill a legal obligation. As healthcare marketers, we must proactively tell our constituents, including our own employees, medical staff, and board, what we’re doing that directly benefits the community every day.
We all know that hospitals too often are lumped in with the “why-healthcare-is-so-expensive” conversation. But that also presents an opportunity for us to dispel many of the fallacies associated with this hasty generalization.
Through targeted and transparent communications about community benefit, we can help others consider all of the free and necessary community service we provide–and help them recognize what healthcare in our communities would be like if not for our organization’s efforts.
